Just to chime in on the electronic ignition bandwagon. I put an Allison XR700 unit on my PV about 2 years ago and haven't had to adjust the timing once since then. With points you have to readjust every 5,000 miles or so, and a timing light would show the timing wobbling around 5 degrees or so at idle. With the electronic ignition in the timing shows rock steady at idle and it just doesn't change as miles go by.
I've got a pertronix in the garage that will go into the 1800E the next time it needs a little ignition attention.
