First, Have you eliminated the possibility of a bad cable or drive gear as the culprit?

If so, I'd advise buying a good used speedo, and setting the mileage to match the car. You can probably buy the cluster for $25 or so, vs. the $150-$200 it could easily cost to have yours repaired.
