UPDATE 200

I checked the voltage at the battery again today.

12v before I turned the car on

Down to 11 VOLTS with the motor running (cold), and only the rear def. on.

10.8 v with the lights (high beams) on.

So it's definitely the alternator, eh? I'll check the ground first, of course. Could it just be the regulator though? I'm not familiar with the function of the regular, besides the obvious observation that it "regulates" the amount of juice coming from the alternator. I still have the regulator in the previous alternator (which was only 4k old itself--some bonehead didn't thighten the pulley bolt enough so it eventually came loose and melted the thing). Maybe I'll try popping that one in.
