I bought a used Crane XR700 off eBay, used it with a used Mallory Volvo distributor. Works like a champ. In stock configuration I never noticed a problem with the ignition, but as the engine gradually started trying harder it finally seemed to waver a bit at full throttle. I first suspected fuel supply, but what really cured it was replacing the tired original coil with a vintage Mallory Voltmaster coil. I did the XR700 and the dist at the same time, so I'm not entirely sure what their contribution to the improved performance. I do know that before with the stock ignition the spark was thin and reedy, with the current setup it is fat and solid.
