The fiberglass modification I want to do is very simple... it invloves a flush cut of the hot air inlet "tube" that extends from the air box cover. I will
1) sand the box cover
2) glass over the hole with a couple of think layers
3) when dry, sand the patch smooth & feather the edges
4) prime & paint black with high temp. spray paint
In this way, I can eliminate the air box flap, thermostat, pre-heat tubing, and that thing on the exhaust manifold all without leaving a ghetto style hole covered with duct tape in my pristine engine compartment. I recognize that I am altering what Volvo intended for a good reason, but I am getting this annoying ping as a result of what I believe to be the door not closing out all the hot air from the exhaust manifold. The flap is a problem waiting to destroy my AMM and I can totally forgo starting my car in the winter and quickly driving away. I will just let her warm up instead... I don't reccomend this modification to everyone... however, it suits me.
Peace, Jon
