No lights with red wire hooked up and Key ON (not running)?
If so, see if lights come on when red wire is unhooked and grounded.
If you get lights with red wire grounded, but not hooked up, the alternator (or it's ground wire) are at fault.
If no lights with red wire grounded, problem is in the wire, or it's path to the bulbs.
This will also prevent the alternator from charging properly, because current from the bulbs is *required* to pre-excite the alternator charging circuits.
