Have you tried adjusting the kick down cable to see if it makes a difference? It's a no cost test and might be a good place to start to convince yourself that it is not the problem.

I have 230,000 on my tranmission and shifting a little hard. Adjusted cable and (just played till got it how I wanted it to shift) and shifts great. I hope you did change transmission for nought.
