A/C strikes again S90-V90 1997

When my compressor failed the three metal straps that connect the driven plate to the hub let go.

After much guidance from this board I decided to replace the whole compressor, dryer, orfice tube etc.

When I took the system apart I found no oil in any of the components. Apparently the compressor was leaking oil and gas for quite a while through one of the mating surfaces. The outside of the compressor was covered in a goopy substance that could have been oxidized PAG oil. The system had been recharged once by the dealer with gas only the year before to restore it to operating condition. Apparently the friction of low/no oil had overloaded the clutch parts and the links let go as the weak link this time.

My guess based on my experience is that your compressor has seized. Hope you can find a good shop for a reasonable price.

I bought a small vacuum pump, studied the manuals and DIYed the full repair. about 2 years later the condensor sprung a leak and I was all set to DIY that for just the cost of the condensor & the R134a.
