Check your 2-pin plug in the trunk, just next to the access panel for the in-tank fuel pump. I had one come unplugged here, and it wasn't disconnected, just pulled out enough to not make contact. Sounds like the same problem.
Alternately, pick up a used cluster (they're under $50, and any 1986+ will work for the test) and see if you get anything out of it.
