Yep, that method of wiring is what I shall do. Thanks for telling me which color wires to use.
I was wondering why the turn signals would *not* be illuminated while both the turn signal and parking light wires were hot. I then realized that the two currents cancel each other out--both lines have the same voltage, so none goes through the light (and it goes dark). Thus, the side markers would be illuminated with the parking lights and flash when appropriate (albeit on opposite timing from the turn signals). It makes sense now.
