Wow that's a new one.
Usually the switches get sticky, and fail to return from START (III) position to RUN (II). When this happens, the car will run, and no accessories will work, including lights.
As noted, a restart fixes it. BUT!!! the car doesn't quit running.
Replacing the electrical part of the ignition switch is a good place as any to start. Not too hard to do, just 2 M4 screws on the back side of it holding it to the lock. Should require a straight screwdriver bit. I use an offset driver or a screwdriver bit with a 1/4 inch wrench around it. A mirror may help to see what's back there.
Good luck.
