I think for almost any Volvo red block, the best choice IMHO is the full syn. 15W-40, heavy duty oil. Flows really well when cold (as good as most 5W or 10W's) - keeps that 40 vis in warmth, all without a ton of viscosity enhancers. Plus a beefy add pack at not such a super high syn price (less than the XW-30's).
