Sorry about the delay in replying here, but I finally managed to go pick the Beast up today, so I only just found out exactly what it was.
It's kind of funny, when all five mechanics in one shop say "Yeah, I've never seen that happen before". I tell ya, it really makes me feel special.
The exact problem was a complete mechanical seize of the mechanism that ties together the fuel distributor and the throttle body plate. They stil had the old one out when I got to the shop, and it wouldn't budge at all. They gave me a hammer, and it -still- wouldn't move. Totally NFG, and the fix was a replacement of the fuel distributor and throttle body.
Oh, I should clarify what I mean by throttle body, just in case I'm calling it the wrong thing. By throttle body I mean the whole actuating arm that the plate under the bellows screws in to.
Thanks again for all your help, Bruce.
