Cutting out 700 1985

My 85 740 GLE has taken to occasionally cutting out. This will occur randomly, but usually after a warm up period. After parking it for a minute or 2 it has always started again and run for the rest of the journey. Other symptoms: hard to start when cold in damp weather. Starts first time in dry cold, down to -20 C.
Any suggestions?
