Line the engine up to TDC, 0° on the timing cover. There's a tick mark on the top of the distributor body. Rotate the thing so one leg points at that, and also, very important I'm sure you know, align the shaft so that when it's installed, the rotor points at that spot as well.

It turns like 1/8 of a turn as it's lowered in, so you've got to figure for that rotation and install it accordingly. Good luck!
