Slight engine clacking 900 1991

I have had a slight clacking engine noise for some time now on my 940 turbo. It becomes more noticable after engine is hot. I have 220,000 miles on the 940 and my 240,000 miles 740 which is quiet. I have never adjusted the valves and will do so now. The FAQ section speaks about rubber valve "hushers". With my mileage it is a good idea to order a set of these cushions before removing the valve covers to check valve clearance?
