I plan on using Bosch. 120-130

I don't know much about the 242, but if you are sure that it is a B20 enginge, you should be fine. But it could be one the old 30 amp alternators that Volvo first used after switching from generators. If it is a 30 amp model I wouldn't bother, it is not enough difference. What you want to have is a 55 amp Bosch, which that 242 very well might have. At any rate, you can buy a rebuilt 55 amp Bosch for as little as $78. See:
http://www.oem-volvo-parts.com/ Just put in that you have 1972 Volvo 140 with fuel injection and do not choose the S.E.V. alternator.
The Bosch model that you want is AL77X.
IGood Luck, Tom.
