I had a similar problem on my 145 with twin SUs. Check with a machine shop, I think it cost me $40.00 in 1994 to plane the entire mating surface flat (engine port side). The machine shop didn't charge me much at all for the service, plus removing the manifold is fairly easy and it fixed that part of the problem. A decent shop should put new studs in for you for a reasonable package price. Better than sucking exhaust imho, easily worth $50.00 for the professional service and a guarantee.
