New rings have a fair amount of drag until bedded in. On the top and bottom of piston travel crank should go free this will indicate brg clearances are ok. One of the most common mistakes in engine reringing is not cleaning all carbon out of compression grooves, this leads to binding and ring breakage. Now is the time to replace timing gears, not on the side of the road. I cant see the benefit of fitting oversize rings to std bore as you can only adjust gap to unworn lower part of bore, which new std rings already are. Regards Jack mcIntyre.
