About 2 weeks ago, I posted a message asking for help in troubleshooting a misfire and backfire problem in my 72 164E. Hopefully, this message will be helpful to others. The car was running just fine when suddenly it began to misfire, then backfire, came to a stop and would not restart. The car has a Crane electronic ignition mounted in the distributor.

Problem resolved. The solder joint on the ground wire inside the disributor between the plate and distributor body let go at one end. Cleaned it up, resoldered. All set. I guess they get that way after nearly 35 years.
