I have a 1800 shifter in my 122. The body shop that did the welding ignored my request to not weld the access hole up in the 1800 tunnel. When I installd it I used a hole saw to cut some holes by the switches in the transmission lid, then filled them with body plugs. I used velcro to hold the carpet down so I can pull it back if I ever need to fiddle with wires or whatever. You can see a poor writeup I did on this at:

For a console I got one from a 1800E and cut the locking box out, then reattached the back portion directly behind the shifter, but at an angle, if that makes any sense. I also cut a hole for the ipd adjustable brain box which is attached to the rear of the tunnel. I elected for the 1800 center console because I knew it would fit with regards to the shifter hole, tunnel length, etc. and, as I was cutting it up anyway, finding a somewhat ratty one was not a big deal. No photos at this point, sorry.
