Anyone have experience with electric instead of engine driven fan? 140-160

I know nothing about the 140 models, but, having said that, why wouldn't you want the fan to come on at, or even below, 180? The thermostat will keep the coolant temp at 180 even if the fan is running at 170. Why wait till the gauge is creeping towards red?
