The OD unit mounts to a slender cast iron 'neck' that sticks back several inches from the M40/41 case, the M41 has the same transmission mount in the same spot on the case as an M41.

There is added weight, but not a huge amount (20 lbs for the OD unit itself?) and pretty insignificant when compared to the back 1/2 of the motor and transmission it is already holding up.
