4000? That seems really high. Our A/T equiped ES turns around 3500 at highway speeds (~70mph). Plus, the rear-end gearing in A/T cars is actually higher than in M/T cars. 3.91 vs 4.30 according to the manual I have at hand.

Incidentally, the trans leaks like a sieve and we have collected most of the parts for the 4sp+OD conversion, which I'll be taking on later this Fall.
