Remote mount TFT sensor

Can anyone help me find the thread about the remote mounting of the 5.0's TFT sensor that is factory mounted to the distributor? I drove my car for ~4 hours of stop and go yesterday and at the end of the trip had it stall after lots of hesitation that felt ignition related, making me think of the TFT issues that are siad to be a problem for some Ford owners. I tried search (such as it is) and couldn't find the thread, which I know was posted in V8.

Any help would be most appreciated. -Boozer

Ford retrofitted a lot of cars, and almost all the Lincoln Mk VII had them mounted remotely in the cowl. If you can scope out some of the cars in a local yard for a TFI distibutor with no module mounted on it, you're likley to stumble onto one. It's just a separate heatsink and a M-F extension cable.

Being that the most common failure was complete ignition loss, sometimes recovering when the module cooled down and sometimes not... your stumbling may not be a module heat issue at all.

Damn, the search function is not that great here, is it? I finally gave up and just used google, and found it in about 20 seconds.

Thanks, Greg. The search function might not have been entirely at fault since I also forgot the module's correct acronym, TFI. I went to the link and re-read what Antiriad had posted and am confident it will fix the trouble.

I sent the new-owner-to-be an email with the thread link so he will be aware of the fix (I also have my old module for him to cannibalize). When we spoke this morning, he confessed to being excited like a kid at Christmas, and he's at the retirement stage of life! Super nice guy and frequent reader of BB. I will let him introduce himself to the BB Volv8 crowd as he starts to modify the car. I'm sure you all will give him the usual BB-V8 welcome and help.

Many thanks to those of you who have helped me live with and improve my beast over the last 3-4 years such that it was able to meet my DD needs. Michael Yount, Peter Grey, Greg Wong et al, muchos gracias.

As I said in my ad, I'm going to the dark/FWD-AWD side, chip and exhaust down the road. Thanks again, guys!

Didn't think it would happen (semi retirement for 5 years) but I've accepted a full time position and will be moving the Volvo to Charlotte. I broke down and bought a new car for the day to day commuting and business travel I'll need to do so I don't subject the Volvo to the commuter/parking lot war zone. Bought a 2006 WRX wagon -- boy am I having boosted fun!
