Intercooling w/out turbo/s-charger?

Today I was getting my oil changed and started talking to the owner. He was a huge mustang 5.0 guy and suggested I get an intercooler for my engine, even before I put a turbo or superchager on. He said the engines ran way hot and I could pick up some real gains and save on engine ware.

Has anyone here done that or know of it? If so, any suggestions?

As I have mentioned before, I do plan on a supercharger, but was thinking I might have to wait on an intercooler.
