So I went to the dragstrip Friday night to see how my car would do since it dynoed at a hair over 300 rwhp after it was tuned.
The first run was:
2.562 60'
14.808
96.50 mph
At least I beat the Dodge Ram (15.4) that was next to me, he had about 2-3 lengths on me early on. The car seemed to have a lot of vibration this first run, like the motor mounts were broken.
Second run:
2.557 60'
15.131
96.05 mph
Got killed by some kind of Fox body Mustang drag car that did 14.0. After this, the car was running a little rougher.
Third run:
2.740 60'
15.317
94.50 mph
Still managed to beat some GMC full size SUV at 15.7, especially with his 1.48 second reaction time, mine was .636. After this, the car had a noticeable miss, but the plug wires were tight, I figured plug problems, so I parked it.
So to sum up, it sucked. The last time I was at the strip, I was running around low 14s at over 102 mph. Something was obviously wrong, and 300 horses were not present at the wheels. I drove home with a misfiring engine, thinking about gas that might have been being dumped into the cats the whole way.
Today I changed my plugs, #2 and #5 looked like they had been hit by the piston. The ground was touching the electrode on #5, and nearly touching on #2. (This is a Ford 5.0 with Trick Flow heads and 10:1 compression, stock crank n rods.) At least it starts, idles, and runs better now with the new plugs, but it looks like I will have to index all the plugs so that this doesn't happen again.
The plugs were the correct dimensions, as recommended by TFS. When you index plugs, you want the opening to face the exhaust valve, correct? Yeah, that'll be fun to figure out... not.
Any comments welcome, of course!
