Can someone please explain to me if my 1990, 8-valve 740GL with Regina truly requires a unique Oxygen Sensor?

I would be happy splicing in a generic replacemet 3-wire O2 Sensor, but all generics that I could find were called out as "Bosch".

I'd rather avoid the $170 for EOM style Regina if I can.

Please help...
