Next best oil filter to a Mann? 850 1995

I need to change my oil ASAP and realized I have no stock of my normal Mann filters in the garage. Can anyone recommend the next best filter I could pick
up at my local parts store? (i.e. NAPA)

There's alot of oil filter ratings information on the web. FRAM seems to have bought up most of the smaller better quality competing filter companies here in the states and then, as usual, dumped their products and started making crap. Their filters generally are at the bottom of any ratings list you may find. You can always try looking down inside the filter. Choose the one that seems to have the most folds of filter material.

Can you point me to some of those oil filter ratings on the Web?

I'm having a hard time believing that the differences in oil filters are that significant.

And I'm having a hard time getting worked-up over a brand of oil filter.

I have to believe that, given 3,000-mile oil/filter changes, cars with different brand filter will end up lasting to the same ripe old age.

When changing filters and oil every 3K miles the quality of the filter probably doesn't matter much concidering modern fuel injected cars do such an efficient job burning gas. I'f you're not interested in keeping you car very long you could probably run it 50K miles or more and trade it in just toping off the oil and never changing the filter! For filter info try:

I agree with you, although the really cheap ones - like those from quick lube places are to be avoided.

It's all about the K & N oil filter(HP 1009). I run this oil filter on my father's 850, and the odometer is reading 350k plus. I wouldn't use any other filter.

    p.s. Try the K & N air filter as well :)

If you are in the northeast order a case from eeuroparts.com (free ship) or fcpgroton.com you'll get tomorrow if you can wait.

Otherwise I don't think a great big difference between filters as long as you don't get $1.95 special. The only reason I stay with Mann is they are pretty cheap by the case- about $3.50 each last time I stocked up.

If it has to be today go for name brand and if worried change again sooner then normal to get a Mann on there. Or you could even just change the filter whenever you get a Mann.

You loose very little oil changing just the filter so don't worry about that. I agree with change it with a NAPA or WIX and then with Mann or Mahl as soon as possible. JUST DON'T USE FRAM....worst filter made although a name brand.

I use WIX 51311. I've been very please with their ability to make a good filter. Also use a 51307 in my 245DL.

Where does one buy a "WIX" brand filter? I live on the east coast and we have here Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Advance stores.

The Napa Gold are allegedly made by Wix. I have used them the few times I have let myself run out of the Mann. The Wix branded filters are carried at the independant chains, and mom and pop type parts stores. Some of the Advance Auto stores have the Bosch oil filters, and most have the Purolator which are next on the quality scale. They are serviceable.
