new tire and wheel question 850

I am about to get a set of 17x7 wheels(Voxx)for my father's '96 850, along with 215/45/17 micheln tires. I am concerned about rubbing on top after having had the IPD springs installed-which dropped the car ~ 1(.5) inch(es). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Noticed that IPD is selling Voxx now for RWD's. Since you have the IPD lowering springs and they seem to know about Voxx too, I would give them a call and talk to them about it and see what they say. There may be a reason they don't carry these wheels for FWD/AWD's, or at least don't advertise them for our Volvo's.

    Hi sciroccofahrer...

The lowering springs and 17x7 wheels will approximate the ride height/tire relationship of an "R" model, so the 45 series profile tire is appropriate.

I can't find the specs on Voxx wheel offsets, to determine if they are similar to OEM wheel offsets. Are you thinking of a set of the five spoke Voxx MG's? They seem to be the only wheel that Voxx makes with the correct 5-108 bolt pattern. With 215's it's going to be close. The "R" models use a 205.

If the tires are going to rub on the inner fender wells, it will occur when the steering is at full lock, and the car is in motion, slightly altering the camber.

The rears are no problem, but you're going to have to monitor what happens up front.

Wish I could be of more help.

Please keep us posted on what the results are. Various tire/wheel/suspension issues are common on this board, and we learn from each other when modifications (successful or unsuccessful) are made.

    Good luck

      I almost forgot: The Voxx 5 spoke wheel(17x7) has a et40 offset.

Thanks for the insight :) The wheels are going to be delivered Monday(I think), and if it looks like the 215's are too wide, I will go with the 205's. Either way, I am sure my father will let me know what the (dis)advantages are, and I will relay them on the board. Have a smashing weekend one and all :)
