Considering '01 XC70

I'm a long time volvo owner, '88 240 (330,000mi.), '94 945, '95 965 (276,000mi,), the 965 being the best car I've ever owned. It still runs like new, after replacing all the big items that go on this car, the latest being the PNP switch.

Anyhoo, I wasn't in the market for a new car, but a '01 V70 XC AWD with 44k caught my eye. Dealer asking 22k, but believe it can be bought for 20.5.

Besides the throttle body, is there anything major that plagues these cars, or is it a sound buy.

    There are several major parts to this 4 wheel driver. The AC evaporator tends to go and replacement is very expensive. The 4 wheel drive system is OK if it is the new type, the original required all 4 tires to be identical in make and wear, else the drive system will burn itself out. There is also very little room to work in the engine bay, the engine is sideways! But much more room than in an Audi/VW.
    If you live in the snow belt, you will love the awd. It will also cost you some gas milage, 25-27mpg on the highway and around 20 in town.

      Might want to also check over on Volvospeed.com, in the '99 and later Maintenance forum. Many tales of woe on the first-generation Cross Country... possibly an inordinate number, but difficult to say since people generally don't post when things are running fine.
