Mainenance intervals 850 850

I just changed my timing belt at 75,000 miles; 5th one; 320,000 on my brick.
It looked pretty darn good. All my miles are highway. Is there some ratio as if I only took 3 mile trips as opposed to long smooth ones.. I drive 50 miles one way to work 49 of them are at 60-70mph. Am I over maintaning this Sled? Thoughts? Rick

I think you're doing the right thing...never can be overly cautious with a TB...I've always heard 70K miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. Time on a belt is just as rough as the miles. I drive the same amount of miles to work as you do...the Serp. belt is due at the same time as my next oil change...then 20K miles more I have the TB coming up.

Thanks, even though I would change the fuel filter sooner and the belts longer. But I guess I will stick to the recomended

8 years and 80 k over here - may depend on engine i guess...me i change at 60 anyway i figure i want MY margin of safety on TB never mind theres....

yeh im sure people have changed them at 7 squillian miles and its been fine but with my luck at 80,001 it would go bang and my engine with it!

i sort of look on it as insurance - like you i do big highway miles and asa result i think that even a standard maintenance schedule is OTT, given the low wear characteristics of those miles BUT i exceed the standard schedule on the basis of IF i have problem im stuck and a long way from home, sure the AA will come and tow me home etc but its a PITA and i aim to gfet considerable miles out of my cars and i am CONVINCED that the secret is a few £/$ on maintenance and a bit of time...

yeh i say exceed the schedule thats for the main dealers who arnt interested in anything over 3 years/80k and for the buyers to convince them how 'cheap' the cars are goign to be to run....my im more interested in 200k and 10 years...
