Possible ignition switch mechanical problem - Looking for good service in Buffalo NY area

My daughter told me that she had a problem with the ignition switch on her '95 855 base that has 145,000 miles on it.

When she shut the car off, the key would not return to the off position, it stopped about 1/8" before the proper position and she could not remove the key.

She was late for an appointment, so she left the key in the car. Later when she returned, she started the car and when she got home, the key acted normally.

I have watched this site and Volvospeed for several years, and I do not remember any posts about the mechanical part of the 850's ignition switch being a problem.

A search did not return any applicable posts.

Anyone?

Also, she is looking for a good place to get her car serviced near Lancaster NY which is near Buffalo.

That does NOT sound like the ignition switch at all. You will find out that if the car is not in park, that is exactly what happens when you turn the car off. I did that several times when shifting into neutral.
The car was not fully in "P".

Volvospeed gives instructions on replacement of the electrical part of the switch. Just did that on mine. Pretty easy 30 min job. Symptoms were couldn't get the car out of Park and the ABS light was on. A lota key jiggling and it would work.

bl - I'll suggest that she check the key for problems when wiggled, I did ask her if she had a lot of stuff on her keychain, which she does not. Thanks

Have a look to see if the safety on the gear-shift selector sticks in place. The key will not return unless the safety pin is fully retracted after your transmission is put into park. Perhaps on the way home the gear was placed in park and the safety pin fell back into its proper place. A little bit of wd40 sprayed into the safety pin will lube it up for proper return.
