Confused - where is my EGR? S70 1998

Hey all,

Spent the afternoon doing a tune-up, and went in to clean the throttle body and EGR. I've done this in the past on my 1994 850 and figured it would be the same.

Well, I could not find the EGR valve! When I removed the TB, there were no vacuum tubes attached like there were on the 850 (and no nubs/attachments for them either) and there was no little hold in the bottom of the exhaust manifold just inside the TB attachment, and no EGR underneath!

So, does this part not exists on the 98 S70 or is it somewhere completely different? I looked around and did not see anything near the idle air motor or TB that resembled EGR.

Also my TB was virtually spotless, so I took apart everything and got my hands filthy with grease all for nothing really... except to know that everything looks fine in there I guess!

Hi Tina,
Those silly/smart Canadian cars don't have an EGR. I am glad to hear that your TB is clean, it will make for peace of mind. The only potential problem you will ever have with your car is the AC leaking, and if it does, a can of r134a only costs about $11 at Kmart.
I hope you know how lucky you are to have a clutch and cloth seats.
Take care,
Klaus

If it is not there then it is not there. Volvo never did anything kinky with the EGR like floor jets or other bizarre crap. You either have a steel tube running from the exhaust manifold to a valve that is either attached to or plumbed to the intake manifold with a vacuum operated solenoid to run it all or you do not have EGR, that simple. If you want to take it a step further then look at the underhood label that calls out the emissions equipment that should be present on your car. It should have some acronyms like SFI, HO2S(2),TWS, and other such things. If it has EGR in there then you have it and if not then you do not.
