Hi all,
After a LOt of rain here, my ABS and TRACS light stay on upon startup, then usually go out after I get up to 10-15mph. Occasionally they come back on, and the pedal shudders for a second. I don't know if this is weather related, it's doing it now while it's somewhat dryer. I don't have any scan tool. I checked the tightness of the connector on the ABS module, seems OK without taking it out of the socket. It's not wet.
The car has about 75K miles on it. I replaced the pads about a year ago. When the lights are out the brakes act normally.
Any ideas where to start?

    All the ABS control units (Installed on 96 and newer 850, 70 series and S80 models) will eventually fail after they reach 65,000 miles or 5 years. The average is 85,000 miles and/or 6 years for failures.
    A dealer will charge from $60.0 to $120.00 to diagnose the problem and about 95% of the cases the mechanic will recommend to replace the ABS control unit.

    I have the exact problem with my '98 v70. I just replaced front rotors and pads and the ABS TRACS light goes on intermittently, though not too often. I'm going to the mechanic tomorrow and I'll relay his message if you're interested: terrencekeenan@yahoo.com

    BTW abs will mdulate any grabbing of the brakes so they don't lock up, especially in wet weather. With the light on, you might lock your wheels.
