Safety and Collision Repair V70-XC70 1998

I'm interested in buying a V70 wagon but I found out it has been involved in a rear end collision. I'm told their was no air bag/SIPS/WHIPS deployment but over 5K of damage was done.

I'm wondering how I can find out if the car was repaired to original Volvo specs so that all the safety features will work correctly in the event it gets hit again? Can a dealer somehow test this? If there's no way to know for sure, I'll probably have to walk away from the deal.

Thanks for any and all advice,

Safety and Collision Repair V70-XC70 1998

I just had a moon roof come off a used car carrier and hit my V70. Luckily, it hit the hood and cracked my windshield. Repair = $2500. New hood, windshield, wiper arms, and grill.
So $5,000 for a square hit in the rear doesn't sound major to me. New liftgate, new bumper and mounts, lights, rear quarter panel fixes, and paint will easily fetch $5K.
If the repair bill is still available, read it closely.

Whether it was to spec or not, unless you've just fallen in love with this car and it is exceptional, I'd take it to a good mechanic for a thorough check-up (to see if there is bent frame damage, etc.) and would probably still avoid it. You just don't know what a bad rear-end collision can do to the quality of the ride.
