S70 Air Pump S70

The air pump on by s70, 98 is making whining, high pitch sounds when it runs and I believe it has water in pump. Can the 1/8 inch hole that is recommended be drilled in the bottom of the pump without removing the pump from the car. From underneath if car is raised up. Thanks jimbob

As MIJ says, you need to drill 2 holes and they can be drilled with the car raised enough for you to slide under. The SAS valve is located up near the firewall. It's round with purple and white vac lines running to it. The pumps fill with water because of poor system design (water runs down hill) not necessarly because the SAS valve has failed. My was full of water and the SAS valve was working fine.

    remember though, that ... S70

the water accumulation at the air pump is an indication that the SAS valve has failed in the open position.

Thus, you need to replace the SAS and drill two 1/8" holes in the bottom of the pump to avoid futher damage.

Yes, but you need to drill 2 of them. One at the bottom and one slightly off to the side. Otherwise, the one hole will vapor lock and not allow the water to drain. Good luck! Be careful not to drill too far...just drill enough to get into the fan housing.
