Anybody ever changed the manual transmission fluid on an '06 S40? My manual says nothing about it & my dealer just says not to worry. But logic tells me there shouldn't be anything wrong with changing it, just so you replace it with the correct type & amount. Just turned 42,000 mis. BTW, the drain & filler plugs are 24mm & the filler looks really tight to get to. Thanks.

    Unless you grind the gears a lot or shift without using the clutch (fun!), the tranny fluid should be good for 100K in a manual box. Open up the filler plug and using a wooden coffee stirrer, check the color. It should be OK.

    BTW, I wouldn't change the fluid until it is out of warrantee.

      Thanks, Klaus. No, I don't grind the gears nor shift w/o the clutch (used to!) so I'll go to 100K; that's when my extended warranty runs out. Just want to do what's right for the car. Went to the East Coast meet in Lake Placid but didn't think to ask anyone there what they did. There was one guy there with 890K on his 740 (w/an automatic tho) and,of course,Irv Gordon with 2,486,000. Think Volvo's policies are more environmentally driven than anything else.
