2000 S70 TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT S70

I am changing the timing belt on a 2000 S70 which has the variable cam timing ( the pully that caan move back and forth without moving the actual camshaft)
I took the timing belt of a used engine that is going into this car. the old ening blew a rod.
anyways i didnt think anything of taking the belf off, but afterwards i found out from the volvo dealer you have to turn the belt half a turn either way to release the oil pressure, if not i guess they say you can damage the valves.
They pretty much told me to just to line up the notch and May God be with you.

has anyone came into this problem and what solved it?????

Two questions related to changing the timing belt on this car.

    1. Does the vibration damper really need to be removed, or can the belt be massaged past the damper to slide on to the pulley?

    2. If not, what size socket do you need to remove the nut that secures the damper?

I am in the middle of relocating and all my "sacred" tools are in storage. I will soon be changing my TB with minimal tools, borrowed if necessary.

    Thanks for any replys.

You are actually using a used belt for your timing belt replacement? To save a little money you would gamble on blowing your engine and the associated big bucks? Or is there something here I do not understand?

I am afraid I would be useless to help you here. While I have changed timing chains before on several cars, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, on cars far far less sophisticated. I will need my belt changed in about 5,000 miles and I will have a shop do it. Good luck.

I think what the dealer meant to say was that if you take out the belt, the cam will move and needs to be repositioned correctly. That is why IPD sells that neat locking tool.
So long as everything is aligned properly.
The tensioner should also be replaced.
