Those super bright H7 bulbs -- reliable or not? V70-XC70

I'm thinking of getting a set of those super bright white H7 Halogen bulbs. However I've heard some complaints that these don't last anywhere as long of the OEM bulbs do.

I have the daytime running lights setting so I will go through bulbs quicker than most. I wonder if any V70 owners have found good longevity with PIAA or Sylvania or other H7 replacement bulbs?

Thanks,

RGW

I put the E-code lens in my V70 T-5 Red Rocket. I was very pleased. Had one new bulb in one side and noticed the difference in output betweeen the two. Replaced old bulb and was very satisfied with the out come. I to had to reaim / fine tune the level (bring down) and adjust the divers side aim to the right just a hair to keep from blinding the oncoming traffic.

If what you want is more visibility in the dark, I suggest you change the lense to E code, not just a brighter bulb. All you will be doing is adding more light for someone to see you, not increase your night vision.
The Ecode lenses produce a very distinct cutoff and let light shine farther down the road. The only problem is that the reflector is not designed for them, so the new lenses must be pointed down a lot more to not blind oncoming traffic.

Need the genuine European light units V70-XC70

Klaus is right about the European lights. However, I disagree about buying the glass covers. You need the entire Hella light unit, including the E-code reflector part. The reflectors and glass covers are a system; one part alone will not do much to help. The problem is that they are hard to find in USA (or at least, I never succeeded). I had to ask a friend toi bring them back from Europe.

As for the bulbs burning out quickly, I have heard other Volvo owners complain about this. The bulbs last indefinitely on my V70, so maybe some cars have slightly higher voltage? Some other problem? I have no idea.

Do you know of any sources other than FCP Groton ($130) for the E-code lenses ?

That's where I got mine, about 2 years ago. Never changed the bulbs, but I also don't use day time running lights.

Had the Piaa's, didn't really make much of a difference and atr $70 a pair might as well go for a full HID kit around $200 and just get it over with. Shut your daytime lamps off.
