What is the best scan tool out there? I've seen INNOVA and ACTRON brands, and they offer various models. Since I have a 1995 850turbo, my vehicle is right on the cusp of the change-over to the OBD II format; but, now I understand that all vehicles are/will be using the CAN format. So, I want a scan tool that will work for both, one that SHOWS the code description and not just the code itself, and one that is obviously upgradeable. Also, I think that the "freeze frame" and "memory" features would be great, so you can recall troubleshooting sessions.

Oh, and around $200.00.

    You don't need a worthless scan tool that only gives you generic error messages. You car has 2 little boxes hanging off the larger ECU box. These boxes will show you every Volvo specific error, including SRS, and let you reset them. For $20, you can call Volvo and get a Pocket Data Booklet which has every code described.
    The 1995 is OBDII.

      Duh...Klaus, don't know how I missed that his car was a '95.

    If you don't want to hassle with a laptop connection, I'd recommend the Equus Innova 3100 (which I have and it workd great!), or the newer ones 3300? The newer ones will read CAN BUS too which means volvos made for MY '05 and newer. The one we have works great on my S70 as well as my wife's '04 V70. I bought mine on eBay for about $80 including case and shipping.

    If you have handy laptop, look into Alex Peper's software OBD-2.com. Not sure it works on the 95 but give um a call and ask
