Time to buy and OBDII Scan Tool V70-XC70

I've decided it's time to pick up on of those OBD2 scan tools everyone is talking about. I'm ok with paying around $200 but I'm having a hard time nailing down some of these vendors on how well their units work with Volvo proprietory codes (non emissions).

Has anyone found an OBD2-USB style mini-unit that plugs into a laptop and is able to diagnose all or most of the Volvo codes in a first generation V70?

Any guidance would be appreciated. My limited research seems to indicate that the ElmScan 5 Multi-protocol OBD2-USB unit seems a good value at around $130 -- but will it work well with my Volvo?

Thanks,

RGW

Time to buy and OBDII Scan Tool V70-XC70

    Good morning RGW,
The hand-held units are fairly expensive, and somewhat limited.
I interface directly into a pc in my garage (cost @ $40.00 for the
OBDII interface & cable). From there you can use ScanTool or ScanMaster
software,(free Demo's, you can also download DigiMoto)
for a much broader range of diagnostics than just DTC's.
