How hard to swap seats (and non to heated) 850 1995

I am considering swapping seats between my 850 sedan (unheated) and an 850 wagon (heated). The seats in the sedan are in nice condition, and the seats in the wagon are not.

So, I am hoping to make the wagon my main car with the nicer seats, and would like to have them heated if possible.

1. How hard is it to simply swap the entire seat without worrying about moving the heating (I would do this if keeping the heating is too difficult)?
2. Would it be possible to swap the covers? My guess is maybe I could put my nicer covers over the guts of the heated seats with the cracked leather, and move that leather to my sedan. I had the hog rings out to do the cable R&R, so I have gone that far.

Thanks again for a helping hand. Don '95 854T 168.9K and ????

The heating pads have an adhesive surface and are glued to the seat foam. If you replace the seat foam, you need to replace the seat heaters. The heaters are not glued to the seat covers.

I think there are 4 bolts holding each seat in the car.

Thanks Bill - I thought I remembered you can't just take the heating pads out.

Now if some kind person could comment on the process of completely removing the covers, that would be helpful. Common sense would indicate they should come off, but I don't want to guess about this.

I've replaced the seat material on the passenger seat and the back covering on my drivers seat. The seat leather is pretty easy but the back has ALOT of hog rings. Some folks have had luck using zip ties and say it's alot easier. You need to feel for the two depressions in the back of the seat to release the headrest.

Thanks for this info. I didn't know about the headrest release. I used zip ties when I did my cable job (good because I may be going back there soon).

I was under some external pressure at the time, and I must say using the zip ties was not as easy as I was hoping. Even if I had a tie twice as long, my memory was it was very hard to get the fingers in there and manipulate the end of the tie into the latch. It may have been just the continuum of cutting hog rings through the whole job that made the zip ties at 1am seem harder than it was. Don

Just save a nice long afternoon to R&R the seat covers. Take the plastic cover off the side of the seat bottom and clip the plastic over the SIPS button. Cut all of the hog clips, pull off the headrests and pull the seats out. It is easier to work on the seats when they are laying on a large piece of cardboard, except for removing the headrests (leverage).

Hi Klaus. I don't have the seats (for that matter I don't have the car yet) out, and I am confident I'll know what you mean by SIPS button when I look at the bottom of the seat. Sounds like a piece of plastic needs to be snipped to disassemble. It will probably become clear. If not, I know where to find you. It is good to know the job is doable, which was my first concern. Thanks, Don
