87 or 92 degree T-stat for my turbo wagon? 850 1995

I'm working on the cooling system and want to replace the thermostat. I see both an 87 degree and a 92 degree model on Groton's site.

Which is correct? I'm in Memphis where the summers are hot and winters are mild.

Thanks,

Erwin

The difference will not make your engine run hotter or cooler, but it will take longer to heat up with the 87C. That is the temperature when the thermostat opens up and allows the coolant to flow to the radiator.

You live in a mild climate, so the 87C would make sense. Unless, of course, most of your driving is comprised of short trips, then go with the 92C to get the engine to operating temps sooner.

The temp is usually a personal preference. If you have mild winters you could go with a lower t-stat temp cause you don't need as much heat output in the winter, I believe that 92 is OEM temp, either will work fine in your car.

      efficiency + mpg also 850 1995

Engine temp also affects overall efficiency and your mpg.
Assuming Volvo gives you a choice, I'd go with the hotter one for better fuel economy. Unless maybe you drive in the desert or maybe in SoCal.
