High blower speed problem, manual AC 850 1994

This is NOT the ECC system, but the manual.

If I run the blower on high for any length of tine the blower will stay on high, regardless of where the fan speed switch is set, and it runs on high even if you shut the car off. Pulling fuse 5 is a quick way to stop it, but of course if you plug #5 back in, it comes back on. After a few days, you can put the fuse in, and it's OK. I suspect the high speed relay is sticking, but am not sure if it is the relay behind the glove box, or the one under the cover of the fuse box.

As it is, with speed 1, 2, nd 3 not functioning (see my other post) and 4 unreliable, I have no cool air, and it's 94 degrees today. Help is greatly appreciated!

It is the relay behind the glove box. High speed is supposed to bypass, but it sounds like the relay is burned.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

I'll swap it out while I'm looking at the problems with speeds 1, 2, 3. Any thoughts or comments on that? The relay was NOT stuck at the time the 1,2 ,3 problem occurred, and I replaced the resistor pack, which cured the low speeds for only a couple of days (see my thread below)

Recently I noticed that the A/C blower was not as powerfull as it used to be. As I had servided the blower motor a few months back I thought that it was not the problem. I took out the four speed switch and noticed that the linear knob was miving with some resistance. I carefully took it apart and voila! It was all full of dried up greasy material. Contacts were extremely dirty. I cleaned it all very carefully and put it back in. It now works great and blower motor speed improved a lot.

If you decide to take yours out and disassemble, which is not difficult, do it slowly and take notice of details. There is a small tricky movable contact that is difficult to put back in place. It is the one you can see from the top of the switch assembly.

        Good Luck
