production period for 850 sedans 850

What was the first and last year for the production of
the 850 sedan? Is there a "best" year for the 850?
What model replaced the 850?
Thanks,
Neils

1992 was the first 850, but hit the USA with 1993 models. For USA market, last year was 1997. The SV70 replaced the 850 in 1998.
Best year? I liked 1995, but 1997 had the better tranny.

The 850 was produced from 1993 to 1997 (for the US market anyway). Best year? 1995 in my opinion. I prefer it for its looks versus the older 850s and for it's OBDI diagnostic system versus the OBDII of the '96 and later models. But then I'm biased because I happen to own a '95.

1993 models are very different from the later models and generally considered to be not as good. 1995 saw minor changes like more modern looking tailights and interior switches. Also in 1995 came DRLs and optional side impact airbags (optional on GLT, standard on Turbo and Platinum). With 1996 came OBDII diagnostic system requiring a scanner to get codes. This is by no means an exhaustive list of differences.

For the 1998 model year the 850 was replaced by the S70 sedan and V70 wagon.
