Considering a turbo V70-XC70

Howdy all you brickboarders,

So with the demise of my '00 V70 SE I'm looking for a replacement and maybe an upgrade. I would very much like to find a turbo but I've never owned one before, much less bought one. So here's the question, what if anything do I need to look for when I look at a turbo v70, or even an 850? Anything specific to avoid? I will NOT be buying anything with AWD (hey, it's flat here in S. FL and I try to stay out of the sand.) Are the '01s something I should avoid? I don't think I can afford anything newer than that. My Limit is around 10k. I did find a really nice '01 T5, but the bank check hadn't arrived in time.

Thanks!

01 v70 T5, manual V70-XC70 2001

Hey guys,

There's a 5spd manual '01 T5 for sale in Philly which is a flight away from me, but it IS a manual. Do you guys have any thoughts about the manual tranny in these? Can any of you talk me OUT of considering this car?

It's for sale by JRL on Matthews Volvo site.

thanks, 95 850 Turbo? V70-XC70

I've found a '95 850 turbo for $3900 I'll be driving Friday. A distant family member has run a indy import shop for 20 years and I'm told really knows his way around the bricks. We'll see what he has to say. Isn't this still the higher pressure turbo?

Thanks guys.

This car *appears* to be the high pressure turbo, from what I gather. First of all, the ad says "Turbo", which normally implies high pressure. Second, it has the turbo wheels. Neither of these is definitive. I believe they also had the light pressure turbo in 95.

PS This car looks sweet, and is exactly what I have been looking for the past two years. Even has the roof racks I was looking for. Good luck.

Once you drive a turbo, you are hooked. Good maintenance records are needed. The'01 was part of the group with some problems with the electronic throttle, but Volvo supposedly has that taken care of.

See what others have to say.

The turbos I test drove were noisy and had bad lag. They also did not seem to feel that much faster off the line. That said I'm looking for one for my next car and have not heard of major problems except small oil leaks that sound pretty easy. And there are never complaints of them giving out. Good Luck.

What Turbo did you drive? The HPT has virtually no lag. My '82 280ZX Turbo had "bad lag".

I now have a 2005 LPT also, and it has a more noticable lag.
