Mileage drop after new plugs 850

I recently changed my NKG plugs to the volvo blister pack for my 850.

I noticed a drop in mileage, as in 2 to 3 mpg on the highway and 3 in the city.

Any idea why the blister pack plugs would decrease fuel efficiency?

    I would inspect the face of all 5 plugs to see if they are all firing correctly. Check the gaps, one may be closed too much.

      Klaus;

      Are you referring to the same plugs I bought which have three prongs that
      never reach the electrode? Weird looking plugs and I am not sure about gapping
      them. How do you gap a plug that never reaches the electrode? These are VOLVO OE plugs in the blister pack with 5 to a pack.

        The 3 prong NA plugs gap from the side. They should already be correct. It is the turbo plugs that look conventional and sometimes get banged around and the gap is too close.
        To gap the 3 prong, it is from the side of the electrode and needs a small wire type feeler gauge.

    i switched from bosch to the volvo OEM plugs and noticed better engine response but no change in mileage that i could detect. i have improved my MPG by 4~5 per tank but i have done plugs, wires, rotor, cap, coil, air filter, fuel filter, fixed the air box thermostat, changed oil and tranny fluid, seafoamed the intake, and it took all of that to get another 4~5 mpg. i get roughly 22~26 around town and 28~31 on the highway now. my best was 25 on the highway before id did the major tune up i described.

    im getting ready to fix my breather box and knock sensors and hope that helps it run smoother with another MPG too! i hope.

    i'd be surprised if spark plugs did that, did you replace anything else? how closely did you check mileage before the plug change?

      I record my mileage at every fill up so i noticed the discrepancy immediatly. Its been about a month and a half since I changed them and the milage has been down since then.

      I'll pull the plugs and take a look at them. I did notice better repsonse from the engine with the plugs, but in this day and age Im looking for better mileage!

      Ill keep you updated.
