spring seat problems V70-XC70

This weekend I will be replacing the spring seats on my '99 v70r for the third time in less then a year. The first time, I replaced lower control arms, struts, strut mounts and spring seats. This set were some cheap pieces of crap (or so I thought) that I purchased on ebay. They lasted about a month before starting to rattle. The second set was made by kyb and purchased from a local parts store. They made it about a month and a half before the right mount seperated (the left is cracked and will fail within the next month). I have ordered a set of the heavy duty mounts from IPD and will be installing them this weekend.

Now my question - Is there anything that I could be doing wrong that is making these mounts fail or are they just crappy? Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Your assessment of the mounts are probably correct. Other sites have suggested going to the XC90 parts because they are more robust and fit the V70. I use OEM mounts but didn't use xc90 because I didn't hear about them until I replaced mine at 130K.

Just make sure that the spring bottom fits correctly in the groove before releasing the tension on the spring. And try to torque down the center nut nicely, it is a hard thing to do (I just get close).

Oh, before removing your struts... Try marking the strut placement with a pencil so that when you put them back on you will be real close and alignment will be easy. Use new bolts!
