As another poster pointed out, you are looking at mature cars in either one. I loved my '95 850 Turbo (I would go high pressure turbo=T5, for my money) - the seats were to die for, and the inside was like new despite 180,000 miles. The seat covers had little wear, which is uncommon in the 850's you will find. Many have cracked seat covers, and the lower left seat back bolster typically gets a lot of wear and wears through.
The '95 was the last year you could read and reset your codes using the under tyhe hood led/switch interface.
The problem with my well maintained '95 850 was that I began to expect it to fail.
'96 850's through S70 had a problem with the ABS computer failing due to some poor solder joints. There is a fellow who does quality repairs for under $200, so this isn't a huge issue.
I just bought a '98 S70 T5 after being disappointed with a '05 V70 Light pressure turbo. I missed the T5 engine, and the seats in the '05 don't compare at all. So I found a '98 with only 55,000 miles on it. Paid a lot of money, but I got what I wanted.
You need to be careful buying one of these. Look for a car with maintenance records (there are numerous things to be done, and knowing and having confidence about what was done when is helpful). The transmissions up till around '98 were a weak link. I always babied mine a bit.
There are common expensive failures. AC components, rear main seal. I think these apply to 850 and S70. Good luck. Don
